Resiliency Practicum #5 - Listen to another’s resilience story

Witnessing another’s resilience story can inspire and motivate to build your own resilience. Stories of resilience are abundant on LinkedIn and other media.

I encourage you to watch Chief Dr. Robert Joseph share how his traumatic experience at residential schools impacted his life. He experienced an awakening that moved him to embark on a healing journey to become a champion for tolerance, truth and reconciliation.

In a world that is uncertain, brittle and chaotic, he encourages us to remember “Namwiyut.” It is a Kwak'wala word, the language of the Kwakwaka'wakw peoples from northern Vancouver Island, meaning "we are all one.” I lean on that word when I feel overwhelmed. It reminds me that we are a part of a community and that together we foster a world of love and peace.

Thank you, Karen Joseph and Reconciliation Canada. I am grateful for the work you do to bring us together to take action, build resilience and remember our humanity.
